Dr. Keele is the associate director for Research Support Cores, a senior principal investigator of the Retroviral Evolution Section, and head of the Viral Evolution Core in the AIDS and Cancer Virus Program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. His research focuses on generating and effectively utilizing nonhuman primate models of AIDS to better understand viral transmission, pathogenesis, immune evasion, and reservoir persistence. For this application, Dr. Keele’s laboratory provides the barcoded virus for intravenous infection. He also performs the next-generation sequencing of the barcode and the extensive computational work to identify the number of distinct lineages per site and the relative effectiveness of the two PReP therapeutics. Dr. Keele received his Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular biology from Brigham Young University and completed his a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
