Strain Description: Both males and females have hindlimb deformities. Plzf is required for spermatogonial stem cell maintenance. Males therefore suffer progressive germ cell loss with age and are infertile. Females breed poorly, potentially due to physical deformities. Plzf is also required for development and differentiation of NKT cells within the hematopoietic system.

Cryopreservation Mating Scheme: The cryopreservation mating scheme is C57BL/6 females x heterozygote males. Average litter size is 8. NOTE: Null animals have hind limb deformities and somewhat restricted movement. This does not negatively affect feeding and general well-being. According to the donor, homozygous mice are viable but not fertile.
