Strain Description: The mice spontaneously developed prostatic epithelial hyperplasia by 2-3 months of age. The disease progressed to low-grade PIN by 5-7 months, and high-grade PIN (15-17 months), in a markedly stochastic pattern reminiscent of the slow progression of prostatic disease in humans. Within the two-year observation period, stromal hypercellularity and chronic inflammation were observed but no invasive cancer was found. This mouse model indicates that overexpression of Fgf8b is sufficient to drive proliferation in the prostatic epithelium.
