Mike is a collaborative, committed, and team-oriented leader with a broad range of clinical research, cGMP laboratory, and information technology experience over 28 years, with the last 20 years working for the FNL/CMRPD. During his career at FNL, Mike has served in many complex roles in facilitating the delivery of technology solutions to support clinical research activities conducted by NIAID, NCI, and other agencies both domestically and globally. He serves as the HIPAA/HITECH privacy and compliance officer for the CMRPD, primary project manager for several subcontract teams, and has provided an array of technical expertise and rapid response services to clinical researchers in responding to critical healthcare crisis including the COVID-19 pandemic and providing direct on-the-ground support during the Ebola outbreak in Africa in 2014-2016. 

Mike has been recognized by NIH, NIAID, and FNL leadership on many occasions for his delivery of innovative solutions to complex clinical research challenges. He was part of CMRPD teams that received two NIH Director’s Awards, first in 2020 as a member of the DCR/NIAID PALM Consortium for the extraordinary contributions of DCR staff in identifying two effective treatments for Ebola virus disease and the second in 2021, as a member of the NIAID Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines Team for outstanding efforts in the pursuit of effective therapeutics to treat COVID-19. He was also recipient of NIAID Merit Awards in 2019, as a member of the PALM team in helping support a randomized, controlled clinical trial in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in 2011, as a member of the regulatory affairs team that launched an electronic common technical document system for FDA submissions. In 2015, he received the FNL President's Award as a member of the Ebola emergency response team for extraordinary commitment and selflessness in providing support to the 2014-2015 health care threat in West Africa. Mike was also recipient of the 2021 FNL Special Achievement Award for the NIH COVID-19 treatment guidelines website.

Prior to joining FNL, Mike worked for the National Confirmatory Testing Laboratory and Diagnostic Manufacturing Division of the American Red Cross as a medical laboratory scientist in which he performed confirmatory testing of HIV, Hepatitis B/C, HTLV Type I and II, syphilis and other infectious diseases. He was also employed by Central Blood Bank at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in which he performed pre-transfusion ABO/Rh testing and crossmatching of blood products for patients and completed his medical technologist training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mike graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology, is an American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certified medical technologist and has his Master of Science degree in computer and information sciences from Hood College.
