Volume electron microscopy (vEM) is quietly revolutionizing cell biological imaging by enabling nanometer-scale 3D visualization of cells and tissues and catalyzing discoveries in various experimental systems.
To demystify vEM to newcomers, the Frederick National Laboratory hosted a two-day workshop in September 2024 that offered hands-on and classroom learning in sample preparation, imaging, and image processing in its leading vEM laboratory.
Twenty participants from government labs and universities across the United States attended the event. They ranged from graduate students to electron microscopy facility directors, and they all left with a greater understanding of vEM fundamentals and a set of standard protocols to execute their own vEM experiments.
