The annual National Cancer Institute and Frederick National Laboratory Technology Showcase highlights technologies and capabilities being developed at both institutions to encourage licensing and collaboration. The event features technology presentations, poster sessions and expert discussions on topics including financing, leveraging incubators and working with patient advocacy groups.
Scientists gain experience pitching their innovations to industry stakeholders. Entrepreneurs gain insights into funding resources, Maryland programs, and partnership mechanisms with the Frederick National Laboratory and National Cancer Institute. The event sparks connections and paves the way for key partnerships while amplifying inventions that could accelerate biomedical research.
By consistently attracting more than 200 attendees, the Tech Showcase is becoming a signature regional event, spotlighting work done at the Frederick National Laboratory and the National Cancer Institute.

Supporting the Biotech Community

By bringing together a wide range of companies, entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and regional economic development groups, this event helps foster the regional biotech community. To date, 31 Maryland organizations have presented at or had booths at the event.
In fact, the Technology Showcase is the only National Institutes of Health event where industry potential partners are the primary audience, making it a critical tool for moving cancer inventions down the path toward commercialization. Its important role in technology transfer and the regional community has been recognized with a 2021 Federal Laboratory Consortium State and Local Development Award and 2020 NCI Director’s Award.
Connections at the event have led to licensing with the National Cancer Institute Technology Transfer Center and a contractor Collaborative Research and Development Agreement (cCRADA) with Frederick National Laboratory around a potential pancreatic cancer therapy.
