The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer related research. CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.


  • Work closely with a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team of biochemists, biophysicists, and structural biologists at the NCI RAS Initiative to investigate the biochemistry and structural biology of multiprotein complexes related to the RAS pathway
  • Elucidate mechanisms of action of a variety of proteins including Neurofibromin (NF1), Spred1, RAF kinases, and others focused on an improved understanding of their role in RAS biology and potential for drug discovery
  • Independently develop and execute protein production, biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology research on a variety of challenging target proteins and multiprotein complexes
  • Collaborate with scientists within the RAS Initiative and externally as needed to design and carry out experiments.
  • Present research findings within the RAS Initiative and at scientific conferences, and publish findings in peer reviewed journals


To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a Ph.D. degree from an accredited college/university in biochemistry, biophysics, or structural biology. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Ability to independently design and execute multiple scientific projects
  • Ability to follow and apply standard laboratory production protocols and procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance


Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Expertise in production and biochemical analysis of multiprotein complexes
  • Advanced knowledge of insect and mammalian expression systems for production of multiprotein complexes
  • Experience in biochemical and biophysical techniques (e.g. SPR, ITC, FRET, HTRF) for characterization of protein-protein interactions
  • Experience with structural biology (X-Ray crystallography, CryoEM) and analysis of protein structures
  • Experience with the RAS pathway or similar signal transduction pathways
  • Capacity to communicate effectively orally and in writing
