Freda FreemanQC Microbiology Manager I’m proud of every lot of product that we manufacture, knowing that the overall purpose is to save lives.
Directorate: Vaccine Clinical Materials
Department or lab: Quality Control/Microbiology
How many years have you worked at the Frederick National Laboratory? 11.5
Job responsibilities: I manage the microbiology laboratory at the Vaccine Clinical Materials Program. My awesome team and I are responsible for monitoring the clean rooms and utility systems—such as our pharmaceutical water and compressed air systems—to ensure that, as a site, we’re operating according to regulatory requirements. In addition, we support validation activities, fill/finish operations including aseptic process qualifications, and in-process testing, to name a few.
Accomplishment at the Frederick National Laboratory you are most proud of: Due to our connection with NIAID, we’re tasked with developing a variety of biologics at the pilot plant. I’m proud of every lot of product that we manufacture, knowing that the overall purpose is to save lives. Our most recent accomplishment that I’m proud of was our ability to expedite the manufacturing of a DNA-based Zika virus vaccine for clinical trials last year.
