PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implementsemerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities toaccomplish NCI research objectives. TheCRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable theexternal cancer research community and providesdedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise inelectron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, proteinexpression, optical microscopy, and genomics. These research efforts are anintegral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research(FNLCR), where CRTPscientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provideresearch technologies and expertise.

KEYROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Electron Microscopy Core facility with 4 staff and oversee day to day operation
  • Consult with NCI/NIH PIs and users
  • Design and implement training on EM technology to meet user's needs
  • Oversee and maintain five electron microscopes (Hitachi H7600, H7650, H7800, S4500, and Thermo Fisher T-12) and associated equipment (Digital camera and water chillers)
  • Evaluate staff performance
  • Co-author manuscripts for collaborative projects

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of PhD in Biological Science or related field from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in electron microscopy
  • Basic knowledge of ultra-structures found in cells, tissues, bacteria, and viruses
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • PhD in Histopathology or Virology
