Norma Diaz-Mayoral, M.S., MBA, is the head of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research’s BioProcessing Laboratory and Trial Logistics groups. Diaz-Mayoral has been with Frederick National Laboratory for over 17 years. The BioProcessing Laboratory processes fresh blood, urine, mouthwash-saliva, and stool, and accessions tissue specimens for multiple clinical trials. The laboratory extracts DNA and RNA for different NIH institutes and has performed research on specimen-related issues associated with repository science. Several of the laboratory’s protocols are incorporated into the NCI GTEx Standard Operating Procedures Library. Diaz-Mayoral is a Biological Specimen Inventory database local administrator and biobanking subject matter expert, performing site assessments on data and repository operations. She collaborates on customized specimen collection and shipping kit design to maintain specimen quality and compliance with domestic and international transport regulations.

Diaz-Mayoral is an experienced microbiologist, project coordinator, biological substance shipper, and laboratory manager, with 23 years of experience as a government contractor and 29 years in biomedical research. She received a B.A. in microbiology from the University of Arizona, an MBA from the University of Maryland University College, and an M.S. in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. Before joining Frederick National Laboratory, Diaz-Mayoral worked for the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center on stem-cell transplant projects in conjunction with the Texas Heart Institute, and for the Henry Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine on assay development for preclinical and clinical enteric bacterial vaccines.
